Driving directions from Keahole-Kona: From the airport, turn left onto State Hwy 19 (Queen Kaahumanu Hwy) north and continue for about 17 miles. Turn left on Waikoloa Beach Dr. At the third stop sign, turn right onto Keana Pl, and the entrance gate is on the left. Getting there: A rental car is the best option for getting to the hotel from the airport, especially for guests who plan to do some sightseeing. Airport shuttles are also available ($16–25; fees subject to change without notice). Getting around: A rental car is essential for taking in the many sights on the Big Island. Guest parking at the hotel is complimentary.

What to expect: Absolute peace and quiet envelops Aston Shores. The hush extends throughout beautiful gardens and grounds and surrounds the entire complex, notwithstanding an occasional "fore!" from the golf course. Amenity highlights: The pool complex includes a hot tub and barbecue grills. Golfers are within walking distance of Waikoloa's Beach Golf Course. The course's clubhouse is situated just outside Aston Shores' entrance. Family-friendly Waikoloa Beach is a 4-minute drive away and has public parking. A beach-activities center rents snorkel sets, kayaks, boogie boards, and pedal boats; and arranges glass-bottom boat, scuba diving, and snorkeling excursions. Insider tip: Waikoloa Beach Resort's upscale shopping/dining center, Kings' Shops, is a two-minute drive from Aston Shores. A telescope located in a gazebo above a lake bordering the shopping center offers a view of Mauna Kea's summit, where the world's largest telescope can be seen.
