Taxis and third-party shuttle vans operate between the airport and the Waikoloa Beach Resort. Fees apply, and shuttles must be arranged beforehand. Rental cars are the most common form of transportation, and are the best bet.

Many guest activities booked at the Vista Waikoloa include transportation from the two nearby resorts to offsite locations. However, the Big Island of Hawaii does not have a public transportation system and Waikoloa Beach Resort shuttles around the resort run only by special request. Rental cars are by far the easiest way to travel around the island and resort, and are highly recommended. Parking at the hotel is complimentary.

    AMENITIES & SERVICES
What to expect: Set back from the bustle of the main road through Waikoloa Beach Resort, this three-story apartment complex lies secluded behind a closed gate and shade-providing foliage. Guests are given a numeric gate code and check in at an on-site office building, where a concierge is on duty. Casual and relaxed, Vista Waikoloa caters primarily to golfers and beach-loving guests.

Amenity highlights: From an open-air community center with barbecue grills and picnic tables, a pathway leads to a gated, private lap pool and sun deck. Restaurants at the Kings' Shops are a 15-minute walk away, and a golf clubhouse five minutes away offers an ideal spot for leisurely lunches. Guests have access to Waikoloa Beach Resort's two golf courses, 14 tennis courts, and two spas (fees apply.) The sandy beach at Anaehoomalu Bay, with good swimming and water sports, is a 15 minutes' walk away.

Insider tip: Behind Kings' Shops is King's Trail, which leads guests on a 5- to 10-minute walk to the Waikoloa Petroglyphs. The thousands of figures carved into the rocks are considered some of the area's best and date from approximately 1400-1800 AD.

Two 18-hole championship golf courses—the adjacent Kings' Golf Course and the nearby Beach Golf Course—surround the Vista Waikoloa (guests receive discounted access). A private lap pool, two spa tubs, and a barbecue pavilion are part of this 122-unit, three-story condominium property.

Guests have access to a computer with Internet connection and a copy/fax machine at the office, where an activity desk is located (fees apply). Private child care can be arranged by the concierge.

Two resorts are a 15-minute walk away, each with spas, fitness centers, and ATM machines (fees apply). Also 15 minutes away, the Kings' Shops brim with a variety of restaurants and upscale boutiques that sell resort wear, island gifts, and art.
